Cold Therapy?
A man named Wim Hof piqued my interest in this topic a few years ago. His method of breathing, mental training, and cold water exposure therapy has become a topic of conversation for many researchers.
Wim Hof and his practitioners have put their lives on the line to test their method–volunteering for incredibly dangerous experimentation in order to show the world how the brain can triumph over the body and control even the most automatic functions.
In one situation, several Wim Hof methodists were exposed to an endotoxin and through their methods of focus were able to dampen their immune response, which previously was not thought to be possible.
There is actually a fairly large number of well-done studies to show validity to his method.
In addition to improved recovery post-workout, cold water therapy has been shown to:
- Boost the immune system
- Improve circulation
- Deepen sleep
- Boost energy levels
- Reduce inflammation
- Improve metabolic function
- Improve mood.
And even has been linked to living longer!
Listen. I’m your chiropractor. I’m not trying to be anything but your chiropractor. But I get curious when I read things like that and they make me want to try them for myself.
